RadCare Services Establishes North Carolina Presence as Hospitals Confront Renewed Scrutiny on Infection Control

New regional footprint expands lead-garment cleaning, inspection, and compliance capacity for surgical sites and healthcare facilities across the Carolinas.

CHARLOTTE, NC, UNITED STATES, October 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- RadCare Services (RCS), a national provider of hospital lead-garment cleaning, inspection, and compliance services, today announced it is establishing a regional presence in North Carolina, adding dedicated capacity to serve surgical sites and healthcare facilities across North and South Carolina, as well as the Southeast.

The expansion comes as hospitals face renewed attention on infection prevention. According to the CDC, an estimated 518,000 healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) still occurred in U.S. hospitals in 2023, and surgical site infections remain among the categories that have shown the least improvement over the past decade. This summer's Cyclospora outbreak, the largest on record in the U.S., according to the CDC, has further heightened public and provider attention on infection control across the healthcare system.

"North Carolina's health systems are at the forefront of innovation, making the Charlotte region one of the fastest-growing markets in the Southeast. Establishing a dedicated RCS facility here was a natural next step in our nation-wide growth. For our clients, that means a local facility and team who can deliver the speed and consistency they need. At the heart of it all is our mission of protecting patient & staff safety, and we're excited to bring that 13-year commitment, along with our culture of radical generosity, to the Queen City,” said Justin McKay, Co-founder and VP of RCS.

Within that landscape, RCS addresses a persistent but frequently overlooked source of hospital contamination: the lead apron. Independent research, including a Wayne State University study, found that 84% of lead aprons worn by interventional radiologists tested positive for Staphylococcus aureus, with 12% carrying MRSA, largely because hospitals clean them with surface wipes rather than a compliant deep-disinfection process. Similar findings have been documented in operating rooms, where bacteria have been shown to recolonize aprons within hours of a routine wipe-down.

RCS's cleaning, disinfection, X-ray inspection, repair, and inventory-tracking service — including its RadComply® compliance platform — is used by hospital systems around the USA and has serviced over one million lead garments to date.

"Hospitals across the United States are under real pressure to reduce infections, yet lead aprons remain one of the most overlooked pieces of protective equipment in the building. Solving that problem is why RCS exists and we’ve seen tremendous demand from hospital networks across the Southeast. Our new Charlotte facility puts us closer to hospitals we already serve and allows for further expansion as hospitals recognize the need to have their garments properly disinfected, inspected, and audit-ready,” said Zach Wills, CEO of RCS.

The North Carolina regional presence will process, inspect, and track lead garments for hospital and surgical clients throughout the region, reducing turnaround time for facilities across the Southeast that rely on lead aprons in cath labs, operating rooms, and imaging suites.

RCS was founded in 2012. Co-founder Justin McKay developed the company's cleaning and compliance protocol after personally contracting ringworm from contaminated hospital lead garments.
